I've also found that setting:

mail_full_filesystem_access = yes

Also simplifies the migration from UWIMAP, as oftentimes the .mailboxlist 
file (which can be simply copied to .subscriptions) contains full paths or 
abbreviated references to ${HOME} (i.e., /home/<user>/mail, ~/mail, etc.)

At least, it's eased the transitional pain for us.
