Thanks for the reply.  I does help, in that it gives me something to 
compare with, thanks.  The infuriating thing is that I had this working 
before I set up fetchmail, then I lost it.  I've just found some lines 
of main.cf to be missing - I had spells of the mouse going beserk a 
couple of days ago, and some strange things happened then, so I think 
that the file became damaged at that time.  Hopefully I've found 
everything now.
