[Dovecot] Can Dovecot work with an RDBMS for mail/attachment storage?

This may seem off the wall, but can dovecot be configured to support a connection to a database server and use the database server to store the e-mail message and its attachments? While you can use Postgres and MySQL for storing and authenticating users, there is a possibility to use an RDBMs to control the mail itself. Thoughts? -- Michael Segel Principal MSCC

Hi, i have a problem with dovecot and quotas, when a user has over-quota he can't access the mail account to download mails and solve the quota problem. I'm using debian sarge (stable) and quota v1 (vfsold), i have installed dovecot in debian way apt-get install dovecot dovecot-common dovecot-pop3d users only can access via pop3 to their mails. Hi FC3 and dovecot1.0 stable using mbox files under /var/spool/mail/username where username is the mbox file. I have 1 user who has a lock file username.lock Why does this happen and how do i remove the lock so the mails held in the queue get delivered to the mbox Mark

[Dovecot] Retention Policy Feature(?)

I am currently using dovecot 0.99.14p1 on OpenBSD 3.8, mbox format, procmail+sendmail MTA. I subscribe to quite a few mailing lists and currently have procmail sorting mail into the proper mboxes. I was hoping there would be some sort of retention policy feature built in to dovecot. I want to delete mail more than X days old from X folders. I have combed the documentation, list archives, and google. Is this a feature? If so, where can I find more information on it. If this isn't a feature, is it in the works or is it left out to keep things "slim line"? Ted Strzalkowski

[Dovecot] Authentication hanging with 1.0alpha4 - mysql issue?

Hello, Recently, I configured my server (RHEL4, 2.6.9-22.0.1.ELsmp) to run postfix 2.1.5 and dovecot 1.0 alpha4. It connects to a MySQL database (mysql 4.1.12) to verify authentication. From 30 minutes to an hour after dovecot is started, authentication and mail access works perfectly. However, after those 30 minutes to an hour, further attempts to authenticate with dovecot result in "hangs" - no temporary authentication errors are reported to the client, and no errors are logged to the dovecot log. The dovecot is still running, and responds to connections, but once the password is sent, the server fails to respond. The following line is registered in the log with each authentication attempt after the "hang": > dovecot: Nov 17 22:44:41 Info: auth-worker(default): mysql: Connected to localhost (postfix) along with an eventual disconnection notice (although no Login: line is registered): > dovecot: Nov 17 22:45:41 Info: imap-login: Disconnected: Inactivity: method=PLAIN, rip=127.0.0.1, lip=127.0.0.1, secured Killing and restarting dovecot immediately fixes the problem, although it reappears after 30 minutes to an hour. Hello, Has anyone succeeded on configuring and compiling Sieve capable Dovecot LDA on RHEL 4 x86_64 platform? I am having problems with configure script hanging on sed while creating Makefiles. # ./configure --with-dovecot=../dovecot .. checking how to hardcode library paths into programs... immediate checking whether stripping libraries is possible... yes checking for library containing regcomp... none required checking rxposix.h usability... no checking rxposix.h presence... no checking for rxposix.h... no configure: creating ./config.status config.status: creating Makefile Configure stops there, if I suspend job I see two running sed processes: 0:00 sed -f ./confstatC25247/subs-2.sed 1:28 sed -f ./confstatC25247/subs-3.sed I already tried latest sed available from gnu.org with no change .. -- Tomi Hakala

Hi, I upgraded my MySQL installation on my FC2 machine from the 3.23 version to the newest 5.0 version. Now dovecot won't start. It gives me the error : 'dovecot dead but subsys locked'. I am using dovecot-0.99-14.
