I will try GCC and let you know what I see :

[mimas] gcc --version
gcc (Blastwave.org Inc. Mon Aug 9 07:10:45 GMT 2010) 4.5.1
Copyright (C) 2010 Free Software Foundation, Inc.

No surprise that GCC works fine :

[mimas] ls -lap ./src/master/.libs/dovecot
-rwxr-xr-x 1 dclarke csw 86388 Aug 17 00:09
./src/master/.libs/dovecot
[mimas] file ./src/master/.libs/dovecot
./src/master/.libs/dovecot: ELF 32-bit MSB executable SPARC Version 1,
dynamically linked, not stripped
[mimas] elfdump -d ./src/master/.libs/dovecot

I did see a few odd messages fly by like this :

*** Warning: Linking the shared library lib30_imap_zlib_plugin.la against
the loadable module
*** lib20_zlib_plugin.so is not portable!

Not too sure what is up with that but I'll look into it.
