Its Day 3 of switching to dovecot ... and I'd like to thank the author and
everyone involved for making an awsome program.
I've been using UofW for years and while its a reasonably good
implementation of IMAP, a few things about it have been annoying me so I
started looking for alternatives and ran across dovecot. I found dovecot
here : http://www.imap.org/products/showall.php and while its not singled
out, it is well listed. I had tried Cyrus before at the suggestion of an
IT pro ... but I had a hell of a time getting it up and running, and I hate
maildirs ... so seeing dovecot listed as with attributes "secure" and
"fastest" was promising, as well as support for mbox format.

As you can tell from my previous posts, I did have some problems getting it
installed and running, but now that its up I'm VERY happy ! My four main
problems with UofW have all been solved.

FYI: These are all Outlook Express issues:

1) Sluggish performance
--> I would often just hang for 10-20-30 seconds while syncing to my inbox,
even if it was small (30 msgs).

2) Intermitant failures to move messages
--> Dragging mail from inbox to a folder would frequently fail with an error
message. I could never figure it out for certian,
but It seemed to corespond to times when the client was syncing a folder ...
if I moved a message during these times it would fail and I'd have to wait a
minute and try again.

3) Clean specification of mail folders. I like my mail in ~/Mail but with
UofW to get it to work right I had to do this in my Advanced Properties. I
could never consistantly train other users to do this so would end up with
many junk email sub-folders "~/mail" , "~\Mail" etc ... also I couldnt use
my PDA because it has no ability to set the root folder so it would by
default grab all my directories in ~ and treat them as folders.

4) Errors manipulating folders
I would consistantly get errors if I tried to create or delete folders while
having its parent folder open.

All of these are fixed perfectly ! In addition a lot more features I havent
even tried yet ... but I'm very happy with the approach of coding priority
to make things reliable, smooth, secure, and fast first ... All the
features in the world mean nothing if the basic operations dont work well.

So thanks to all for doing such a great job !!!
