[Dovecot] Plain password not authenticating

That all looks correct. It doesn't give any other error message? And you
don't have some other auth_passdbs/auth_userdbs defined in the same
config file elsewhere which might mess things up?

Maybe just try 1.0alpha5 instead, it could give you better error
messages.
