[Dovecot] cannot delete emails in inbox

What about the /var/spool/mail directory's permissions?

I think this should have helped, but only if the /var/spool/mail  
directory's group is "mail".

This alone doesn't really do anything. But if the group thing doesn't  
seem to work you can at least do:

chmod 01777 /var/spool/mail
